A Broadbeach business supported by bcom ICT

IT support for Broadbeach retail and venues

Convention traffic, a major shopping centre and one of the densest dining strips on the coast. Broadbeach businesses live on payments working and WiFi holding up under load.

  • ~5 min from our office
  • Retail & venue focus
  • EFTPOS failover
  • Same-day attendance

bcom ICT provides IT support to businesses across Broadbeach — retail, restaurants, venues, accommodation and the professional offices around Pacific Fair, the convention precinct and Oracle Boulevard. Broadbeach is roughly five minutes from our Surfers Paradise office, so attendance is usually same-day and often much sooner. Call 07 3041 8993.

Local landscape

What Broadbeach is actually like to work in

Broadbeach runs on events. The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, The Star and the surrounding hotels mean the suburb's population swings dramatically with the calendar — a conference weekend, a show, a long weekend. Systems that are entirely comfortable on a Tuesday in June get properly tested on exactly the days a failure is most expensive.

Pacific Fair anchors the retail side, with the surrounding strips through Victoria Avenue, Surf Parade and the Oasis precinct carrying independent retail and food. That is a payments-first environment: when the point of sale is down the shop is shut, and there is no version of that which is merely inconvenient.

The dining strip along Surf Parade and Victoria Avenue has the same shape as Surfers but denser — venues where a failure at seven on a Saturday costs the night, on margins that do not absorb it. Then there is the Oracle and the surrounding towers, which hold professional and corporate tenants with the same high-rise access considerations as Surfers Paradise.

Accommodation sits across all of it — hotels, serviced apartments and short-stay operators, all with guest WiFi expectations set by whatever the guest has at home.

Who we work with here

The businesses we see most in Broadbeach

Payments and wireless capacity come up in almost every conversation here.

Retail around Pacific Fair

Point of sale, payment terminals, stock systems and the network underneath them. Payment devices segmented from staff and guest traffic, and automatic 4G or 5G failover so an internet outage does not close the till.

Restaurants, bars and cafes

Along Surf Parade, Victoria Avenue and the Oasis precinct. POS and EFTPOS uptime through service, online ordering integrations, and WiFi that covers terraces and outdoor seating as well as inside.

Accommodation and short-stay

Guest WiFi across whole properties, property management systems, and payment terminals across multiple outlets. Device density is the constant challenge.

Convention and event operators

Connectivity that has to work when a room fills, which is the only moment anyone judges it. Temporary requirements alongside permanent infrastructure.

Professional offices in the Oracle and surrounding towers

Standard office IT with building management approvals, service lift bookings and after-hours windows attached to anything involving cabling.

Multi-site operators run from Broadbeach

Businesses with a Broadbeach base and locations elsewhere on the coast — better served by one standard across sites, centrally managed, than by each running whatever it accumulated.

What's technically different about Broadbeach

Load arrives in waves. Convention weekends, school holidays and events spike foot traffic and device density together. A wireless network specified for a normal Tuesday will visibly fail on those days — and those are the days it matters. Capacity here has to be designed for the peak rather than the average, which is a different specification and a different conversation about cost.

Payments are the priority above everything. In retail and hospitality the point of sale is the business. That means payment terminals on their own network segment, unreachable from staff machines or guest WiFi — expected practice under PCI-DSS and far cheaper to build in than to retrofit — and automatic failover so card payments continue through an outage without anyone plugging anything in while customers wait.

Guest WiFi and business systems must not meet. Customer wireless with any route to a stock system, a back office or a payment device is a genuine exposure. Done properly it is a real amenity; done as an afterthought it is a way in.

Trading hours are not office hours. Disruptive work gets scheduled around service and trade, which usually means early mornings, Mondays or genuinely quiet periods. We plan around your trading pattern rather than ours.

Getting to you

Broadbeach is roughly five minutes from our office at 9 Ferny Avenue, Surfers Paradise — one of the fastest suburbs on the coast for us to reach. Same-day attendance is effectively always available, and often much sooner than that.

Many faults are diagnosed remotely within minutes at $198 + GST per hour with no call-out, which for a venue mid-service is usually the difference between trading and not.

For anything urgent during business hours, call rather than email — 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday, Brisbane time.

Streets and precincts we regularly attend

We attend businesses throughout Broadbeach and immediately around it, including:

  • Pacific Fair and the surrounding retail precinct
  • Oracle Boulevard and the Oracle towers
  • Surf Parade, Victoria Avenue and the Broadbeach dining strip
  • The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre precinct
  • Hooker Boulevard, Christine Avenue and the commercial stretch inland
  • Broadbeach Waters, Mermaid Waters and the surrounding business pockets
  • Kurrawa, Northcliffe and the beachfront toward Surfers Paradise
  • Nerang-Broadbeach Road heading inland toward Nerang

Payment terminal segmentation is standard on every business network we design, and it is PCI-DSS-aligned practice rather than an optional extra. If you take card payments and nobody can tell you whether your terminals are isolated, that is worth an hour.

Typical jobs

What Broadbeach businesses actually call us about

  • WiFi that collapses when the venue fills — a capacity design problem, not an internet problem, and measurable rather than guessable
  • EFTPOS dropping out at peak, almost always saturated wireless rather than the terminal itself
  • Automatic 4G or 5G failover so card payments continue through an internet outage — the single highest-value thing a retailer here can do
  • Payment terminal segmentation retrofitted onto a flat network where guests, staff and EFTPOS all share one segment
  • Online ordering integrations that stopped talking to the POS, usually silently, with orders simply not arriving
  • Guest WiFi isolation where a customer network can currently reach back-office systems
  • High-rise office fit-outs in the Oracle and surrounding towers, cabled and tested around building access rules
  • Multi-site standardisation for operators running Broadbeach plus other Gold Coast locations
In practice

What IT support in Broadbeach actually involves

A representative engagement, drawn from real work with identifying detail removed — we don’t name clients without written permission.

Representative engagement

A Broadbeach venue judged on its guest WiFi

The situation

A hospitality business near the Broadbeach convention precinct was losing function bookings. Organisers who ran one event were not returning, and feedback repeatedly mentioned connectivity.

What we found

The function space had wireless coverage suited to a site inspection with a handful of people and nowhere near enough capacity for a full room. Venues in this part of the coast are inspected by organisers who bring a laptop and test it in an empty room, which the venue passed every time, and then judged by two hundred delegates, which it did not.

What we did

Redesigned the function space for full occupancy, put the event network on its own segment away from venue systems and point-of-sale, and load-tested the room before the next booking rather than during it.

The outcome

Events now run at capacity without incident. Around Broadbeach and the convention precinct, guest connectivity is part of the product rather than a back-office concern, and it is assessed publicly.

Common questions

Questions Gold Coast businesses ask us

Do you provide IT support in Broadbeach?

Yes. bcom ICT is based at 9 Ferny Avenue, Surfers Paradise — roughly five minutes from Broadbeach — so attendance is effectively always same-day and often much sooner. We cover Pacific Fair and the surrounding retail, the Oracle towers, the Surf Parade and Victoria Avenue dining strip, and the convention centre precinct. Call 07 3041 8993.

Our WiFi struggles when we're busy. Can that be fixed?

Usually, and it is a capacity design problem rather than an internet one. One access point serving forty devices behaves nothing like one serving five, and Broadbeach's event and holiday peaks make that visible in a way a quiet Tuesday never will. It needs surveying and properly specified equipment — adding a consumer extender generally makes it worse.

What happens to our payments if the internet drops?

With automatic 4G or 5G failover, card payments keep working and the changeover needs nobody's attention. Without it you stop trading. For a Broadbeach retailer or venue it typically pays for itself the first time it is used, and it is cheaper than a premium internet plan.

Do we need to separate our payment terminals from the rest of the network?

Yes, and it is expected practice under PCI-DSS. Payment devices should sit on their own network segment that staff machines and guest WiFi cannot reach. It costs almost nothing to build in at installation and is genuinely awkward to retrofit later — but we do retrofit it, and it is one of the more common jobs here.

Can you attend during trading hours?

Yes, and we work around service where it matters. Disruptive work is scheduled outside trading — early mornings, Mondays or genuinely quiet periods. For anything urgent, call during business hours and we will usually be there quickly given the distance.

Can you support us across several Gold Coast sites?

Yes, and it is where the biggest gains are. Standardising equipment and configuration across locations makes support far faster and problems far rarer than each site running whatever it accumulated. Our largest engagement is a national retail chain supported as a single estate.
